For my first animal shaped box I chose the pufferfish, which I have been lucky enough to see in in person while snorkeling in the Caribbean. It was very cute and shy hiding in the coral reef from divers and marine predators. When scared, pufferfish can grow to 2-3 times their size. In Japan Fugu may be referred to as Fuku 福, which means luck. They can be found displayed in their puffed up form as lanterns and decoration in front of shops and restaurants as a symbol of good fortune.
Woods Used: (Main body is one of - Amboyna Burl, Macassar Ebony, Moradillo and Buckeye Burl) with Figured Maple, Cherry and Gaboon Ebony

"Formed in the shape of the classic Japanese snack, it’s an homage to Hakone and the godfathers of puzzle boxes, the Karakuri Creation Group. Jason shared his story: “I have always enjoyed building things since I was a kid. I used to work with my dad on projects around the house and create art projects with my mom. As I got older I started working with tools more, building furniture, making lamps, decorative boxes and other little gifts for family and friends."
